oc·to·pus (ok'tuh-pus') n. Any of numerous carnivorous marine mollusks of the genus Octopus or related genera, found worldwide. The octopus has a rounded soft body, eight tentacles with each bearing two rows of suckers, a large distinct head, and a strong beaklike mouth. Also called devilfish. oc·to·pi (ok'tuh-py') n.
The Octopi began as a composition project at the University of Oklahoma, consisting of Trey Beauregard on saxophone, Chad McKinney on guitar and Curtis Mckinney on bass, its main purpose to perform works by its members. The results were so favorable that its members decided to perform outside the confines of the university, adding fellow composer Martin Gardner on trumpet. The Octopi frequently invites guest musicians to play along with them and can be seen playing around Norman as well as in the recording studio.
